J.N. Webster's Personal Watercraft (PWC) is a great opportunity for older Scouts who love the water to take their interest to the next level. In this five-day program, Scouts will learn how to operate a PWC and enjoy this unique recreational aquatic activity while exploring Goss Pond Through a nationally approved education program, Scouts will gain confidence and have a blast!

Scouts registered for this program will need to bring a signed waiver form (found below) for PWC and have passed the Swimmer’s test.

In addition, your Scout must complete the Boating Safety Education course and bring a state-issued ID card. This requirement by the State of Connecticut and the BSA must be completed online prior to camp. See the next column for options and approved classes.

• Limited to 16  years and older scouts.

• There will be a $55 fee for the program at camp.

 

• Classes will meet daily. 

 

• Due to Connecticut Law, participants will need to have passed a boater’s safety course​. We will offer an in-person Course at JNW in June for a Connecticut Personal Watercraft Operation (CPWO)

 

• Youth members will need a release form, signed by their parents and a copy of their boater’s safety certificate.

Required Forms & Pre-Course
​Links for the required Connecticut boating safety education course (or equivalent) and required JNW program waiver can be found below. The “Temporary Boater Education Certificate” should be printed and brought with the Scout to camp.

• Due to Connecticut Law, participants will need to have passed a boater’s safety course. We will offer an in-person Course at JNW in June for a Connecticut Personal Watercraft Operation (CPWO)

• Scouts may take an ONLINE E-Course approved by the State of New York, which has reciprocal agreement and is recognized by CT. The CPWO class is at your own expense and needs to be completed prior to the start of camp.

• ​​Scouts enrolled in the PWC program at JNW will also qualify for Motorboating Merit Badge.
